Scope

Exposure-response function for short-term (acute) exposure to ambient air particulate matter (PM) with an aerodynamic diameter < 2.5 µm and work loss days (WLDs).

Dimensions and boundaries relevant for the variable

  • Age of exposed population
  • Country/other geographic area

Definition

Data

Ostro (1987) [1]

Work loss days (WLDs):

  • 0.46% (95% Cl 0.39%, 0.53%) increase in WLDs per 1 µg/m3 PM2.5 in age group 15-64
  • change of 207 WLDs (95% Cl 176, 238) per 10 µg/m3 PM2.5per year per 1000 people ages 15-64 in general population
    • Assumes background rate of 4.5 WLDs per person aged 15-64 (general population, employement rate 63%))[2]
