Aim

The purpose of this page is to gather information on:

1) Policies of fishery and fishing

2) Various health endpoints for substances found in fish

Different policies for fishing and fishery

Here is a list of different ways for controlling health effects due to fish consumption

  • Setting maximum concentration for dioxins found in fish

-- Commission regulation (EC) No 199/2006)

-- Council Regulation (EC) No 2375/2001 of November 2001 setting maximum levels for certain contaminants in foodstuffs

  • National maximum limits for methyl mercury found in fish

-- 1 mg/kg set by EU

-- National limits for particular species?

  • Consumption advirories and recommendations
  • Directing and steering fishing (kalastuksen ohjaus)
  • Steering institutional kitchen
  • Regional restrictions and limitations for fishing
  • Financial support to aquaculture
  • Imposing duty on dumping of fish (polkumyyntitulli)

Health endpoints for dioxins, methylmercury and omega-3 fatty acids

We concentrate here on dioxins, methylmercury and omega-3 fatty acids. There are number of other substances with health effects as well, but they are not concidered here.
