Future plans for Transport mode change
• Metro of Thessaloniki (exp. service 2015)
– 13 terminals (basic line) and 35 (total network)
– 9.6 km (basic line) and 33km (total network)
– Daily exp. service 250000 people for the basic line
• Vehicle fleet withdrawn and substitution
valid from 2011
– Valid for vehicles older than 31/1998 and less 3.5tn
• Introduction of diesel engine vehicles in city
– Decision by law number 4030 /2011 article 50, provided that vehicles use EURO V and VI
engines and engine is smaller than 4000cc
• Alternative fuels and effect of economic crisis
– Gas: growing demand on engine adjustments (low cost) for the existing vehicles
– Biofuels: according to 2003/30/EU, the national law N.3423/2005 states a National objective
of 5.75% of fleet to be on bio-fuels by end of 2010; similar trends are expected in the future
