'''PCDD/F concentration in adult Finnish population''' describes concentrations of polychlorinated dibenzo-''p''-dioxins and furans (PCDD/Fs) in adult (>15 years) Finnish population. Concentrations are given in absolute units (not toxicity-weighted TEq's) for the 17 toxic congeners (those with 2,3,7,8 chlorine substitutes). (Draft)

Distributions of individual concentrations are given for 10-year age groups starting from 15 years. Time is not restricted in the scope, but the current data is for years 1996-1999, when the sarcoma case control study was performed (Tuomisto et al., 2004). The individuals are only from Southern and Central Finland (south from Vaasa). Based on WHO mother's milk follow-up studies, it has been estimated that the PCDD/F concentrations are decreasing by 5% per year in Finland.

Scope

PCDD/F concentration in adult Finnish population describes concentrations of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and furans (PCDD/Fs) in adult (>15 years) Finnish population. Concentrations are given in absolute units (not toxicity-weighted TEq's) for the 17 toxic congeners (those with 2,3,7,8 chlorine substitutes). (Draft)

Description

Distributions of individual concentrations are given for 10-year age groups starting from 15 years. Time is not restricted in the scope, but the current data is for years 1996-1999, when the sarcoma case control study was performed (Tuomisto et al., 2004). The individuals are only from Southern and Central Finland (south from Vaasa). Based on WHO mother's milk follow-up studies, it has been estimated that the PCDD/F concentrations are decreasing by 5% per year in Finland.

Definition

The result is based on data [1]. Lognormal distribution is assumed for individual variation for each age group, and median and geometric standard deviation (GSD) are given. Sexes are not shown separately, as there is practically no difference.
