Risk characterisation is the transformation of risks for the same risk category (e.g. mortality, morbidity, acidification, global warming, ...) into values with a common unit, so that results can be directly compared. Example: transformation of health risks into DALY's (disability adjusted life years).[1]<section end=glossary />
