Accompanying letter for readers of the special issue

Dear Associate,

Bepraribean (Best Practices for Risk-Benefit Analysis of Foods) was a research project about benefit-risk assessment (BRA) of food and nutrition. It was based on lessons from other fields: food microbiology, economics and marketing-finance, environmental health, medicine, and consumer perception. The project produced six scientific review articles on the state-of-the-art of benefit-risk analysis in the fields mentioned above. Based on the lessons learned, a seventh article was written on how to progress beyond the state-of-the-art of benefit-risk analysis in food and nutrition. This special issue of Food and Chemical Toxicology contains those articles.

The partner institutes were Food Group Denmark, Maastricht University, The Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment, University of Ulster, Norwegian Institute of Food, Fisheries and Aquaculture Research, Matis ltd. and The Finnish National Institute for Health and Welfare.

Additional information about open assessment and Opasnet, mentioned in the article about environmental health assessment, can be found from http://en.opasnet.org and http://en.opasnet.org/w/Bepraribean .

Enjoy reading.

Sincerely,

Jouni Tuomisto, Senior researcher, National Institute for Health and Welfare

Saatekirje erikoisnumeron lukijoille

Hyvä kollega,

Bepraribean (Best Practices for Risk-Benefit Analysis of Foods) oli tutkimusprojekti, jossa käsiteltiin elintarvikkeiden ja ravitsemus hyöty-riskiarviointia.

Terveisin,

Jouni Tuomisto, erikoistutkija, Terveyden ja hyvinvoinnin laitos
