Scope
Domestic fish consumption of the general population describes average fish consumption of the general population. Only Finnish fish are considered. Sea and freshwater species are considered separately. D↷
Description
For the most important species (herring, salmon) the actual consumption estimates are available, but for the most of the species consumption estimates are calculated from fishery catch. For those species, fishery catch is first transformed to filleted fish weight and further with actual edible proportions to fish consumption.

Data
Actual content
There are two kinds of data. Actual consumption data and fishery catch data.[1] [2] [3] [4]
Narrative description
For the most important species (herring, salmon) the actual consumption estimates are available [5], but for the most of the species consumption estimates are calculated from fishery catch. [6] For those species, fishery catch is first transformed to filleted fish weight [7] and further with actual edible proportions [8]to fish consumption.
RKTL has data on overall fish consumption in Finland. This model yields a very similar estimate.
