What exactly is the difference between a flow chart and a causal diagram?

Statements: A flow chart and a causal diagram are the same thing. Resolution: Flow charts and causal diagrams are different things and used for different purposes. (A stable resolution, when found, should be updated to the main page.)

It can also describe work flow such as the path of tasks computer program does when it is run (e.g. "Let C be A*B; if C is equal to 100 then goto line 55 else goto line 155." Influence diagrams or causal diagrams describe influences (causal relations) between variables, and there is no need to be flow of molecules (e.g. a particle filter has an impact on the emissions, but the influence is not about molecule flows.)
