Definition
At the local level, there is an increasing trend for local authorities to develop Local Agenda 21 strategies as well as e-government facilities. The aim of these strategies is to involve the local community and to develop local policies that will increase its sustainability with respect to a range of environmental, social and economic issues. Consequently, the proportion of local authorities with Local Agenda 21 strategies is a useful indicator of stakeholder participation in this respect.[1]
