IUPAC: International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry. IUPAC has standardised the names of all PCB and PCDD/F congeners and given them reference numbers that are widely used due to their simplicity compared to their proper names. E.g., PCB126 denotes 3,3',4,4',5-pentachlorobiphenyl. [1]
