Scope

Dioxin concentrations during a lifetime of an average Finn describes the development of dioxin concentrations in several tissues in an average Finnish woman exposed to current (2008) levels.

Definition

Data

The adult intake is based on a food basket study[1]. The peak exposure during the first year is an author judgement. It could be estimated more precisely by calculating the intake based on the fact that an active breast feeding can transfer ca. 25 % of the mother's body burden to the child[2]:

  • Intake at age 0 - 5 a (ng/min) 0.000173611
  • Intake at age 5 - 10 a (ng/min) 0.000173611
  • Intake at age 10 -15 a (ng/min) 0.000173611
  • Intake at age 15 -40 a (ng/min) 0.000173611
  • Intake at age 40 - a (ng/min) 0.000173611
  • Start of peak exposure (days) 10
  • End of peak exposure (days) 365
  • Dose of pic (ng/min) 0.0005

Causality

List of parents:

  • None

Unit

ng/l (concentration, in blood) or ng (total amount, in other organs)

Formula

Dioxin PBPK model
The results are total amounts (ng) of dioxin, except blood concentration (ng/l).

See the model documentation

The input data used for this variable:
  • Intake at age 0 - 5 a (ng/min) 0.000173611
  • Intake at age 5 - 10 a (ng/min) 0.000173611
  • Intake at age 10-15 a (ng/min) 0.000173611
  • Intake at age 15 - 40 a (ng/min) 0.000173611
  • Intake at age 40 - a (ng/min) 0.000173611
  • Start of peak intake (days) 10
  • End of peak intake (days) 365
  • Additional peak intake (ng/min) 0.0005

--#1: : The concentrations are higher (ca. double) than what is measured from the Finnish population, although the intake is close to the current intake estimates. Maybe the model assumes too long half-life for dioxin. --Jouni 22:32, 4 January 2008 (EET)
